Hello,

I'm pretty new to SSL but do have an overall understanding of how it's used.  So far I'm able to configure my test machine by using SelfSSL(iis60rkt.exe) and am able to visit my site via https and it's working.

However,  I need to test and incorporate an Intermediate certificate,  in this case from Verisign since they offer a free trial period.

https://knowledge.verisign.com/support/ssl-certificates-support/index?page=content&id=AR212&actp=LIST

I've tried to follow their Kbase article (https://knowledge.verisign.com/support/ssl-certificates-support/index?page=content&id=AR233) but I don't see the same screenshots they have in step#6.

I guess my questions would be

- what am I missing?

- Do I have all the requirements to set this up?

- Should I move away from SelfSSL and get a cert from a CA?

Thanks,

Wallie

Hi Wally,

This is Jonathan from VeriSign Technical Support.  If you selected IIS as the server platform, we actually send you the intermediate and the SSL certificates combined into one file.  So if you import the file we send to you, it essentially imports both the SSL and the intermediate.

However, our trial SSL certificates do not come signed by a valid root certificate.  In order to bypass the errors that the certificate is not signed by a trusted authority, you would need to import the trial root CA certificate into your browser.  You can find the trial root and the browser installation instructions here:

http://www.verisign.com/support/verisign-intermediate-ca/Trial_Secure_Server_Root/index.html

But in order to test the full functionality of our certificates, we would recommend enrolling for a full time certificate.  You can revoke the certificate within 30 days and get a full refund if you are not satisfied with the product.

Thank You,

VeriSign Technical Support
